The Latest in
Thiotte
news as of February, 2007
First of all,
Father Gaston and the parishioners of Sacred Heart Parish thank us very much
for the Christmas gifts sent this year. Father Gaston reassures us
that pictures of the children receiving the gifts will be forthcoming.
Construction
Begins on new Water Cistern
(see story below in Fr. Gaston's letter)

Last Spring we sent money to
Thiotte to begin construction on a new water cistern. We also sent
funds that were collected from the community to begin a reforestation
project. We included with those funds a video from the Arbor Day
Foundation to educate the children about how to plant trees and how
important trees are for the health of Haiti and her inhabitants.

Many tree seedlings were given to parishioners last fall in an effort to
reforest the surrounding areas of Thiotte. Here Father Gaston nurtures
coffee tree seedlings at the rectory started by students in the middle
school. These too will be distributed to parishioners who are able to
plant them at their homes.
Father Gaston writes in a letter dated January 26, 2007 which he sent
back with the Medical mission:
"...We are coming to the end of two
weeks of work at the clinic of Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart). We are
satisfied. Doctors Tony, Bill, Barry and the Haitian doctors have done
good work as well as the other members of the group. We give many
thanks to God.

"Doctor Tony has given a beautiful generator for the Parish. The
faithful of Thiotte appreciate this gesture very much.

"I send you some photos of the
cistern under construction. It is not yet finished because with the money
we received from you, we have enlarged our library in the lower level of the
first story. On the second story there is a pump house and three toilets.
The cistern will be very high. Next I will send you photos of the
finished project with a complete financial report....

expansion is located behind the ladder on the first story. The water
cistern will add three additional toilets to this very busy, public place.
"Thank everyone for their prayers and help, may God bless you all.
Yours very truly, Father Gaston Pierre”
Since
the Haiti Medical Mission of Wisconsin has partnered with Haiti Health there
have been people hired to staff the clinic in Thiotte. Here are some

Twinning with a
Parish in Haiti has proven to be the best way to help the poorest of the
poor in that country. 100% of the funds we collect serve the interests
of the poor by
providing jobs, education and medical care to the community through the
Church. This way, the work we do is not only compassionate, but
evangelical.

To make a gift to Haiti:
At St. Cecilia parish, one may use the Haiti envelope in the
member packet, an envelope located in the pew (pictured here), or specify on a blank envelope that you want your gift to go
to Haiti. At St. Joseph Catholic Parish, 3/4 of one per cent of
the general collections is set aside for Thiotte, Haiti.
We sincerely recommend to any parish
wishing to reach out in missions to call or email the Parish Twinning
Program, to adopt your own Sister Parish in Haiti.
